I uploaded the picture of Spearfish Canyon to Image Chef and used that because I want you all to see where I’ve been the last couple of weeks. Mom’s house is about 18 miles down the canyon from here, and we’ll bike down (after hauling the bicycles up in the pickup. I used to ride both directions…). Spearfish Canyon is supposedly the oldest geological formation in the United States, but I should check on that. It’s quite a few hundred million years older than the Grand Canyon.
I love the wordle thing that Susan did a couple of weeks ago. It might be fun for students to write their favorite genres and book titles in something like this and see what they come up with.

Just hate topix.net. It’s pretty hard to even want to navigate that place. I did add Edublog to my blogroll, because it seems like a good idea to watch blogs that are award winners and see what makes them so good. I decided that mostly I don’t like these places that are supposed to help me find blogs I might be interested in. Just too much information all at once!

I added a few things to the sidebar: a category “RSS Feeds” that I can add links under in order to control how huge the blog gets, an RSS widget for SLJ, and a couple of blogs under blogrolls, including my bloglines account (I don’t know if this is the public one, but there it is). On bloglines I clicked a few “I’m interested in” buttons, and now I have 372 blogs to follow. Which I will never do. So I’ll have to go uncheck them, and just search on my own for a few blogs to follow.
I always forget that when I add a category to the sidebar it doesn’t show up until I have something below it that I have linked to it. I don’t know how much time I spend looking for it until I remember. It’s frustrating.
I can see adding a few book review RSS feeds and blogs to our official Havens blog. I prefer my google reader on my iGoogle page to keep me up-to-date.

Well. I love my iPhone, more than I could know. What I discovered while learning about Flickr is that I can upload my photos from my iPhone directly to my Flickr account, which I think is marvelous. I’m currently on vacation without my cord to attach my digital camera to my mom’s computer, so if I want to add some wonderful Black Hills of South Dakota photographs I can take them with my nifty iPhone. I also love Robin’s photo book from her son; I think this is a great use of technology. He used the Apple program for photos, but a person could use Flickr (or whatever) as well.

I am interested in so many of these; they sound like so much fun (and I can see how a person could become completely immersed in them). I think the mappr mashup would be a fun addition to the 5th grade state reports. Say if a student went to any particular state, he or she could add the appropriate photographs and that could become part of a student’s state report. Mappr could really liven up those state reports!

The Three Cups of Tea photograph I got from Flickr. I did create an account there so I can link the blogs together. I’ll go back now and do some more hunting through Flickr to get more acquainted with the site. I remember listening to a panel at last year’s CSLA conference and the presenters all seemed to have gotten lost in Flickr because they enjoyed it so much.

I’m hoping that the Piedmont schools can join in the effort to collect “pennies for peace,” which helps Greg Mortensen and his Central Asia Institute build schools in Pakistan to educate the girls and boys who may not otherwise be able to go to school.

Week 2 Thing 3:
Okay. I didn’t like trying to get my avatar onto my blog. It’s here somewhere…I think. I’ll keep looking for it and maybe it’ll turn up…. Oh where, or where can my avatar be? Oh where, oh where can she be?
